Gaming Platform Opportunities: Youtube by Alayna Fu

When a child says they want to be a gamer when they grow up, most adults would just laugh and tell them they’d never make it as a gamer. Nowadays, if you plan your approach just right, you can make millions a year from gaming. Take Pewdiepie for example, he makes approximately 5.2 million dollars per year off Youtube. Want to learn how to start your Youtube channel off gaming now? Here’s how! This blog is part of a series called Gaming Platform Opportunities.

Youtuber Basics

First off, don’t be afraid of mistakes. That’s how you grow. Viewers also like to see improvement in their favorite Youtubers. Learn the basics of being a Youtuber. Watch what you say and do as it can affect how your viewers perceive you. Overall, just don’t be a jerk. Make Youtube friends! They can teach you the ways of Youtube and help you out every now and then. Make sure you have your own schedule you can properly follow without burning yourself out.

Now that we got basics out of the way, let’s start with the fun stuff; income. The main way you can earn income off of Youtube is through ads. Those annoying 10 second unskippable ads you get before your favorite Youtuber’s videos actually help them. Ad revenue is what they get from running ads. Monetization is when a video runs ads and gets money. Demonetization is when videos run ads but don’t get any money due to copyright, swearing, bad topics, etc. You can only run ads when you have one thousand followers or more.

Another way you can earn money off of Youtube is sponsors. You can reach out to companies and offer to show off some of their products or services and get paid. This usually means free stuff. The life of a Youtuber seems pretty nice to me.

Being a Youtuber is actually a little tougher than it seems as there is a lot of planning involved. Take Mr. Beast as example. You may or may not have heard of him before but he has a little over 50 million subscribers. He does gaming on one of his channels but on his main channel, he gives away money. Lots of money. As you can expect, he needs to keep track of his budget and spending. He probably has an accountant that does the work for him but for the sake of this example, let’s pretend he does it himself. With the help of his knowledge on finance and investing, he is able to successfully give away his money while earning it all back and more. He is able to give away loads of money and then earn more money back through ad revenue. This basically creates an endless cycle of money.

So the next time your parents laugh at you for wanting to become a gamer, pull up Mr. Beast’s ad revenue analytics and they won’t be laughing for much longer.
